What are the requirements for a partner visa?
To be eligible for Partner Migration visa, you must either be married, engaged to, or in a defacto (common law) relationship with an Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen.
In your application you will be required to provide a wide range of documents that prove and demonstrate the nature of your relationship. The documents can range from joint bank statements, emails and text messages that prove the length and sustainability of the relationhsip. The Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) will almost always request for yourself and your partner to attend an interview where a series of questions will be asked to prove the nature of your relationship.
Requirements for a partner visa in Australia:
-Couples who are engaged must have a genuine intention to marry and live together
– You must be over the age of 18 and your relationship with your partner must be genuine and continuing.
– Married and defacto couples must live together and show a mutual commitment to a shared life together (except in some religious circumstances that have recently come to light where living arrangements have been questioned)
There must be proven grounds that your Australian partner can support you on financial grounds and also must agree to sponsor you during your first 2 years in Australia.
