Double Refugee Intake By 2015
Bill Shorten the Opposition leader, has spoken out about a new direction with Labor’s immigration policy which has called for better treatment and acceptance of refugees.
Asylum seekers have been described by Shorten as “profound significance for our party and our nation” saying that we owe a large dept to our generations of refugee’s and migrants and that it should never be forgotten. The Labor government has been said to want to Double Refugee Intake By 2015. The increase of refugee intake would increase to nearly 27,000 people.
The wonderful culture that has been brought to our nation should not be ignored and it is because of this culture that makes Australia a nation of varied differences that in turn we celebrate together.
Mr Shorten went on to say: “We know that Australia is a nation writ large because of migration,” he said.
“I want us to accept more refugees and ensure that we treat refugees more humanely.
