A 12-Year Journey to Permanent Residency

Some visa matters are more than just applications – they are stories of patience, persistence and, sometimes, unexpected turns of events.

Our relationship with Joram and Shirley Nesher began in 2012, when the team at Phillip Silver & Associates first assisted with their migration journey to Australia.

Our initial strategy was to pursue a Parent visa. However, Joram and Shirley were subject to Condition 8503 on their visitor visa, which prevented them from making a further visa application while in Australia. For some time, this presented a significant obstacle.

Then, unexpectedly, circumstances changed. Joram suffered a shoulder injury and required medical treatment in Australia. This became the turning point in his case. Given his medical circumstances, we were able to successfully seek a waiver of the 8503 condition, opening the door for a new visa application.

In 2012, we subsequently lodged their Parent visa application which allowed them to remain in Australia with their son and grandchildren, beginning what would become a remarkably long journey.

After 12 years of waiting, perseverance finally paid off. On 2 September 2026, Joram was granted an Aged Parent (subclass 804) visa, giving him permanent residency in Australia. Sadly Shirley passed away before the parent visa was granted. However she was able to spend the rest of her life with her son and grandchildren.

Born on 22 November 1934, Joram is now 93 years old.

After more than a decade of waiting, countless steps and an unexpected medical turning point, Joram can finally call Australia his permanent home.

His story is a wonderful reminder that some migration journeys take extraordinary patience – but that persistence can ultimately lead to an extraordinary result.
